Fall is known to be one of the most expressive seasons for hair and makeup trends, and 2019 is no exception. Bold colors, textures, and materials make for fresh and innovative looks this season. There are both new and inventive cosmetology trends as well as some returning favorites. New York Fashion Week has spoken, and the fall trend predictions are decided upon. Here are five of our favorite cosmetology trends we expect to see everyone rocking in the upcoming fall months.
This is a beauty trend that most likely originated with the nation’s current Meghan Markle obsession. Markle sported an elegant messy bun at the nape of her neck for her lavish wedding ceremony last year, and since then, she’s been seen sporting the look regularly. This trend has absolutely blossomed in the past year and it’s expected to be especially popular in the fall as a practical yet still stunning hairdo for the upcoming colder months. This style is perfect to pair with oversized or bulky sweaters, turtlenecks, or anything with a high collar.

New York Fashion Week’s recent runway show revealed several fall collections that paid homage to the tremendously impactful disco era. Michael Kors, in particular, adorned his runway models with bold, blown-out eye shadow with a touch of sparkle to draw attention to the eyes. It was achieved with the new fall collection from MAC that curates a similar 70s-themed tone. This look is eye-catching and perfect for an evening or night-out. When paired with voluminous curls or afro-style hair, you can achieve the perfect disco look.
This one is a classic, but still one of the top fall makeup trends that has persisted over the years. Burgundy, eggplant, and deep mauve shades of lipstick are a staple of autumn expression. This trend isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, so offer it to your clients during their next makeover. If you really want to make your lips pop, pair these bold colors with minimal eye makeup or foundation. Also, Additionally, neutral-toned clothing will provide the ultimate contrast and make it nearly impossible for people to miss this stunning lipstick trend.

On a similar note to the previously mentioned disco-themed trends, glitter is back as a tribute to decades past. This time, however, it’s more of an homage to the 1980s, where glitter reigned supreme. Not only were the runways this year showcasing dramatic, glittering eyes as a bold statement, designers also rolled out monochromatic eyes to match the shades of sparkle in the models’ lipstick and outfits. As a makeup artist or cosmetologist, you can try this on your clientele by swiping a neutral-colored sparkle across the lids for a touch of glam that doesn’t overwhelm the senses. Additionally, make sure that you’re using cosmetic grade glitter and not craft glitter when trying this trend out, as glitter is an abrasive substance that can be irritating to the eyes if not the proper type.

Another popular, disco-themed trend that was displayed in the fall runway previews was a celebration of natural hair volume. Several designers took care to embrace and enhance the volume and texture of their models’ strands. Afro-esque styles are making a comeback, as well as heavy teasing in both loose styles and up-dos featuring wild and massive ponytails. This celebration of the natural is perfect for mundane recreation, and it is exceptionally simple. This trend is all about enhancing what you already have. Try air-drying your client’s hair in its normal fashion and finish off with some proper hair-hydration to tame frizz and fly-aways while still showcasing its natural style.
These are just a few of the new and exciting cosmetology trends coming this fall.
