As an airbrush specialist/designer, I decided to further my art career in the field of Nail Technology Training. After a considerable amount of thinking and research, I decided to enroll myself at Genesis Career College in August 2011. Upon my interview with Erin Conner, Admissions Officer, I mentioned just how serious I was about becoming one of the best students the College has ever had. I would normally come into school around 8:45 AM and many times not leaving school ‘til almost 9PM- my dedication to my goals and craft surpassed any other situations in life to me that would otherwise interfere with my progress.
My First Month of School
Within one month of school, I was already voted in as student of the month. That was a huge accomplishment for me since that was one of my goals. Within three months, I had taken on many clients and already exceeded 500 hours. I had a choice to graduate In November, but elected to graduate instead on January 9, 2012. Before graduation, I was asked to create a radio commercial for the school on The Country Giant and Magic 98.5. That was yet another goal of mine…to stand out and be remembered.
Within a month after graduation, I saw an ad that had been posted on Facebook saying “Nail Tech Wanted.” The ad was already 7 hours old, but the next day I went to the salon and introduced myself. I was immediately hired on to be trained at the salon. After I passed my state board exam, I was hired on full time and after only three months I was steadily gaining more clients and building a good name for myself. The money is not bad at all and I am working to reach the salary that I have set a goal to achieve.
Now, after two years with the company I have achieved one of the best reputations for Pedicure Nail techs in my area. I also have clients in Memphis, Florida and Michigan. In addition to my growing success, I have also placed four other Genesis graduates at our salon.
I have only just begun.
I have this advice to say: Be TRUE to your GOALS and DREAMS…but most of all, be TRUE to yourself and those around that believe in you. Set your goals, move forward building a good reputation and DON’T LOOK BACK! You will succeed as well!
