To see what it might be like to get a license to work as an esthetician in the state of your choice, here’s a detailed look into how to get an esthetician license in Tennessee, where Genesis Career College offers board-certified esthetician programs at campuses in Cookeville and Nashville:

In Tennessee, estheticians are licensed by the Tennessee Board of Cosmetology and Barber Examiners. The board requires passing grades on two exams—a written test and a practical—both administered by PSI.Esthetician-1-Leb

When you have completed the course requirements of your program, Genesis Career College will notify you and PSI of your eligibility to take both exams.

Once you receive notification of eligibility, visit PSI online or call 1-800-733-9267 to schedule and pay for your written exam.

Here is a link to PSI’s Esthetician licensing information. And here is the Esthetician licensing bulletin: please print and read it carefully, as it explains how to schedule and take your two tests, complete your esthetician certification application and receive your license from the State of Tennessee.

First take the written “theory” exam. There are testing locations across Tennessee, in Chattanooga, Jackson, Johnson City, Knoxville, Memphis and Nashville.

Once you achieve a passing grade, you are allowed to schedule your practical. The practical exam, also administered by PSI, has sites in Memphis, Nashville and Knoxville.

The written “theory” exam costs $70. The practical exam also has a separate $70 fee.

Once you have passed both the theory and practical portions of the state board examination through PSI, you will receive a notification that you have passed, along with a license application form to complete.

Submit the application with a $50 license fee to receive your esthetician license from the state of Tennessee.

Please refer to Tennessee Board of Cosmetology and Barber Examiners with questions.

You can do it! Good luck!
